RE: yong soo ji do

It is Tuesday or Thursday after the adult class (so 9:30 ish). It would be open to you. Due to the very late time attendance is usually small. I believe that Todd may be the only regular student with others coming as schedules allow. Personally, I would love to come every week but have a obligations at home that make that extremely challenging. I can't recommend this highly enough. I've had some prior martial arts training (before Koguryo I mean) and have never seen or done anything remotely as beneficial as our YSJD training.

Thank you very much Jason, that was way more information than I expected! I understand that a few students recommend this as it really helped them in regular classes. Is it then (tuesday) open to white belts?

RE: yong soo ji do

Well, Master Circle would be way better to answer this and I'm sure he will when he reads it.

Yong Soo Ji Do is the way of defending one's family. It is one characteristic of our martial art, the defining one actually that distinguishes us from broader Tang Soo Do, emphasizing a style of body movement and striking. Body movements are meant to take on characteristics of the dragon's style of movement (Soo Ho Ji Moo). As we move further into YSJD curriculum it emphasizes receiving and utilizing energy flow to enhance and facilitate our martial art. Sah Boo Nim (Grandmaster Lee) is the one successor of this art which has been passed down Master to student (Grandmaster to Grandmaster?) dating back to the Koguryo dynasty from which our system takes its name.

That is the quick, and I hope mostly accurate, version of Yong Soo Ji Do. On technique you may have seen, the most basic ones, are Son Duk Tuk Bup (triangle striking). From there, it will build in many ways that at first feel very unnatural, but which are the source of tremendous power and fluidity as we slowly begin to understand and incorporate it into our training.

Hope this helps till Master Circle provides a more in depth answer for you.
Master Circle told a couple of us white belts how to count last Saturday.
Sometimes when you guys count it just sounds like grunting, so it's nice to have a way to listen to it and practice.

[thinking back] na, dul, se, ne, sot, sot... [/thinking back]

hahah! You're right! I remember it as a bunch of grunting noises, too!

When working out with these two guys, and Master Circle, my grunts were more like grunts of pain.

Great Link Todd! Also very sensitive to some of the concerns people have when coming in to train for the first time. You Rock (double entendre inteded )

I know, because I've been there, many of you have some apprehension when it comes to keeping the count during our warmups, but fear not! I've found a handy little tool to get you well on your way to counting like a true Korean. Just click on the link below and not only will you be directed to a page giving you a visual representation of 1-10 in Hangul but an auditory representation as well. Have fun and enjoy!!!!!!
