I'm not familiar with any of them, to be honest, Jason. I'll ask them next Friday. There's a meet-n-greet going on next Friday that I'm going to have my daughter attend. I'm sure it's open to parents, too. I'll ask more questions then. I probably will ask the assistant instructors though... the Head Honcho is pure Korean and I wouldn't want him thinking that I'm being disrespectful. I've learned my lesson with some of those older Korean guys, man! LOL!

RE: New Martial Artist

WTF/Kukkiwon TKD form series are Taguek (modern forms) and Palgwe (more traditional). Palgwe are basic I stepping patterns that more or less resemble Pyung Ahn Cho Dan or Ee Dan. The Tagueks have more varied stepping patterns that do not really resemble any of our stepping patterns. I believe that Chung Do Kwan is one the eight TKD Kwans or schools. My TKD training was in Chung Moo Kwan.

If her school is affiliated with the ITF I do not know their forms or what they might resemble. Does any of this sound familiar Leo?

Chung Do Kwan? Does that sound familiar? That's his style, and I have a picture of his certificate to 8th Dan. All I know is that my daughter really loves her school and that's important to me right now. The instructors seem to know their stuff, too.

It's interesting to see the similarities and the differences. They know that I'm a Moo Duk Kwan player, too. They enjoy talking to me. It's been a good learning experience so far.

Do you know what series of forms she is learning? I would be curious to see them. I had an intro class in TKD and did some forms before I found Master Ruffing's school.

Very nice Jason. That video was cool. No real chance of any one of us visiting a site in North Korea, so this was a nice look at the tombs.

thanks for posting.

I came across the UNESCO world cultural heritage website today and noticed that General Chun's tomb is one of only 100 recognized sites in the world. A little bit of history is on the site, but the video shows some impressive detail of the artwork from his tomb.

LOL! I know, I know... I've even told fellow "parents" what I was doing and they all looked at me like I just got punched in the face. (d'oh!)

I appreciate all cautionary tips offered by you, sir! I look forward to the day when she starts asking.

I did go to her dojang yesterday, to pick her up. I'm very proud of her accomplishments, thus far. They are working with her on her white belt form, now. It's very basic and very differernt than ki-cho hyung il bu or pyong ahn cho dan... but, it's a very good basic form that incorporates stepping movements with punches and down blocks.

It's so funny being able to watch her grow, then practice her very form just by watching her do them. Of course, I do them out in the garage after she goes to bed. hahaha!

I love this stuff!
I'm struck by the correspondence to our animal imagery. To me it looks like a snake surrounding a turtle, obviously bringing to mind our beginner and intermediate forms. That the whole thing is called the black dragon cues in even better binding things together under the Soo Ho Ji Moo umbrella. Thanks for linking this Master Circle!
