OK guys, I rented Red Belt over the weekend (an Indie film from earlier this year) and it was amazing. The martial arts were very good, but not flashy. The philosophy and the martial arts lifestyle were excellent. I highly recommend this to anyone reading my post. _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

I found the acting to be a bit off, but the story was a lot better than I thought it would be. I actually liked message the story was trying to portray. Actually, it portrayed several different stories.
The acting didn't really work with me, though... It's definitely worth renting, though. _________________ - Leo

Huh, what didn't you like Leo? I really enjoyed the main character and liked seeing Tim Allen in his understated role, I did not care for the sleazy promoter types and thought that acting was a bit weak, but not to the point of distracting from the movie. I'd probably put this in my top five martial movies. And really, come on ... Dan Inosanto.... you gotta love it. _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

Well... I dunno... I didn't like any of the acting at all, to be honest. It was all "okay," but I guess it wasn't as emotional as I hoped it would be. I watched it 2 nights ago, so it's really fresh in my mind.
Maybe it's because I went on a movie watching spree, the past week... get this... here's what I've watched in 4 days time:
1. Kung Fu Panda
2. The new batman flick
3. Hancock
4. Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
5. Iron Man
6. Redbelt (obviously)
7. Semi-Pro
8. Superhero Movie (stupid... yet... kind-of funny)
9. Never Back Down
I'm movied-out... I had to get caught up on all the movies I've been missing out on, so I just went crazy.
I guess the main character (Mike Terry) was kind-of boring to me. I dunno... the story line was good and suitable considering all the politics in the MMA and all... but I don't know... I didn't leave the movie with a satisfied feeling (warm and fuzzy, if you will).
I guess, I wanted to see more from Mr. Terry. I wanted to see him divorce his wife, slap his brother in law, kiss the lawyer, blah, blah, etc, etc... I guess in hindsight, I can see what you mean by it portraying a very good rendition of what a martial arts lifestyle should and shouldn't be, but I guess I'm out for more action when I watch these types of flicks.
Remember... I'm just a green belt and still stuck in the mysticism of it all. I'll grow up one day. LOL _________________ - Leo

how did you think it compared to the original version? I thought the extra story greatly improved the movie, but I suppose not everyone would feel that way _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

I thought it all came together well. The theatrical version wasn't fresh enough in my mind to identify all that was included in the extended version, but I did enjoy it. _________________

| I saw the movie yesterday and it is a great movie simply because of it's message. Everyone was corrupted by greed and self interest. Except some who chose to do the right thing. Even the people in his own art were corrupt, so it wasnt necessarily the art's teachings that made one pure. It was the individual and his own actions that determined his/her outcome. There are many people like this who sell their souls in order to prosper. I thought of our current financial "crisis" when i watched this movie and you can come to the same conlusions. |
