Hey guys, right now NBC is not scheduled to broadcast Olympic TKD at a specified time. In the past it has been slotted in "pick up" slots in between other "more important" events. This year they are offering online broadcast of many events that do not receive television coverage including TKD. The TKD events begin Tuesday the 19th at 9PM and broadcast for three hours in the morning and four at night the 20th-23rd. The medal rounds are the morning slots Wed-Sat and all will be available on nbcolympics.com through their online olympics coverage. Just thought I'd share for anyone interested. _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

It's very nice to see the competition leveling out, in the world. Looks like we were a little too dominant, years ago. Good stuff, sir. _________________ - Leo

8 golds in 08, I'm sure there are Chinese numerologists making all manner of sense out of this.
In response to a question from Master Circle about when you can view online footage, you can view it any time after the event has taken place. Presently you can view any events going back to the first day, I'm not sure how long they will leave these available, but the TKD footage for the first contests will be up tomorrow. In an interesting turn, Steven Lopez (who is probably the most dominant fighter in any weight class) will be facing the guy he defeated in the final at Athens for his first match. He has not lost an Olympic or WTF sanctioned match since 2002 so I don't think he is worried. For anyone who has not seen Olympic style sparring be prepared for a shock. You will not see any offensive use of the hands (except as a distraction) and lots of really fast kicking combinations with lots of "bouncing" in between exchanges. Its very interesting to watch, but also very, very different from what we do. _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

So Mark Lopez won silver and Diana Lopez won Bronze, not what either had hoped but so far the US has medalled in 2 out of the 3 weight classes where we have competed. Steven has yet to compete and is the overwhelming favorite for gold! He starts competing tomorrow around lunch time. _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

So one silver and two bronze out of four competitors
Steven lost his first match since 2002 but rallied to win bronze, his sister Diana won bronze and his brother Mark won silver. I think we should be pleased with our team. South Korea dominated the finals thus far wining three of the four awarded gold medals. _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

They did very well, considering the competition. I really loved watching it all on 3rd shift. _________________ - Leo

I don't know if anyone else saw this, but you wouldn't expect this in the olypmics or in martial arts, so that goes doubly when the two coincide.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/olympics/2008135033_olybadsport24.html
The follow up is that he was banned from international and olympic competition for life. I don't know if anyone else has had contact with "sport" style TKD or not, but I think this explemplifies the things we worry about when training looses its holistic perspective and focuses too much on competition.... _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans
