I guess she's ready.
That's my daughter Nicole. She just turned 9 in March. She's taking Tae Kwon Do under the instruction of Master Cho. Master Cho is an 8th Dan (technically, I believe he's a Grandmaster but he asked me to call him Master Cho), and from what I understand he was a coach for one of the Olympic TKD teams... not sure which year, though. Nicole was wanting more of a "classroom" environment vs. what I do, so this school seems to be best for now. Her first class was today, and she really liked it.
Just wanted to share. There are no TSD schools around us, so TKD will do. All that matters is that my daughter likes it.

I almost lost her though... I was trying to help her out by going over some of what she learned in class and I learned that I'd better leave that to the professionals. I guess when she gets older, and more into it, she'll come to me with questions. I can't wait for that day to happen. As for now, I'm pretty happy with the school I put her in. It'll be interesting to see how she evolves over the next few months.
You know the cool thing about all of this? By the time she's a teenager (I dread the thought) she'll be a black belt. Poor boyfriends. LOL! I was worried about the whole "dating scene," but now I'm not. Well... just a little. _________________ Tang Soo!

LOL! I know, I know... I've even told fellow "parents" what I was doing and they all looked at me like I just got punched in the face. (d'oh!)
I appreciate all cautionary tips offered by you, sir! I look forward to the day when she starts asking.
I did go to her dojang yesterday, to pick her up. I'm very proud of her accomplishments, thus far. They are working with her on her white belt form, now. It's very basic and very differernt than ki-cho hyung il bu or pyong ahn cho dan... but, it's a very good basic form that incorporates stepping movements with punches and down blocks.
It's so funny being able to watch her grow, then practice her very form just by watching her do them. Of course, I do them out in the garage after she goes to bed. hahaha!

Do you know what series of forms she is learning? I would be curious to see them. I had an intro class in TKD and did some forms before I found Master Ruffing's school. _________________
Chung Do Kwan? Does that sound familiar? That's his style, and I have a picture of his certificate to 8th Dan. All I know is that my daughter really loves her school and that's important to me right now. The instructors seem to know their stuff, too.
It's interesting to see the similarities and the differences. They know that I'm a Moo Duk Kwan player, too. They enjoy talking to me. It's been a good learning experience so far.
WTF/Kukkiwon TKD form series are Taguek (modern forms) and Palgwe (more traditional). Palgwe are basic I stepping patterns that more or less resemble Pyung Ahn Cho Dan or Ee Dan. The Tagueks have more varied stepping patterns that do not really resemble any of our stepping patterns. I believe that Chung Do Kwan is one the eight TKD Kwans or schools. My TKD training was in Chung Moo Kwan.
If her school is affiliated with the ITF I do not know their forms or what they might resemble. Does any of this sound familiar Leo? _________________ Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

I'm not familiar with any of them, to be honest, Jason. I'll ask them next Friday. There's a meet-n-greet going on next Friday that I'm going to have my daughter attend. I'm sure it's open to parents, too. I'll ask more questions then. I probably will ask the assistant instructors though... the Head Honcho is pure Korean and I wouldn't want him thinking that I'm being disrespectful. I've learned my lesson with some of those older Korean guys, man! LOL! _________________ Tang Soo!

They have over 300 students and the master runs a Christian church (spoken in Korean, so I won't be attending any time soon) out of his dojang. Tax break?
I just got a new video camera this week (well, my wife thinks it was her Mother's Day gift, but I digress...) and I'll get some footage of the dojang and class. I'll also try to post it up on here.
To be honest, I don't know what to think of this dojang yet. All I know is that my daughter loves it... I guess that's all that matters for the time-being. _________________ Tang Soo!

She actually attending a class, with me, today at Master Mac's. She did really well and I couldn't be prouder. Master Mac has his Kukkiwon black belt certificate, so Nikki fit right in. It was a fun day!
